Let's visualize the geometry itself. Look at these light cones. Far from the black hole, you can move in any direction in space, or stay still. But as you approach the horizon, the cones tip over. Inside the horizon, the future light cone points entirely toward the singularity. There is no path that leads out. Moving forward in time literally means moving toward r=0. This is why the singularity is not just a place in space, but a moment in your future.
